- Appearance: Smooth outer skin (peridium), ranging in color from light yellow to brown. The interior (globa) is creamy with white or brownish veins.
- Size: Usually reaches 2–5 cm in diameter.
- Aroma and taste: The aroma is pungent, reminiscent of garlic and spices, but milder than that of Tuber magnatum.
Habitat and harvesting:
- It grows in symbiosis with oak, pine, and beech, primarily in sandy and calcareous soils.
- It is found in Europe, mainly in Italy, and is harvested from January to April.
